Cross timber panels for a better tomorrow

What are Woodsons Cross Timber Panels?

Woodsons Cross Timber Panels (WXP) are a type of engineered wood product made from multiple layers of profiled cladding board timber that are connected with nails. The boards are laid with cross-layer method which creates a strong and durable panel that is resistant to warping and twisting.

This method also gives stability to the wood to keep the elements measurements static through the long period of time without being much affected by the drying.

Woodsons panels are produced industrial way meaning the quality of the product is ongoing and ensured by the controlled production processes.

What can you do with the panels?

Our panels are produced for building material. These panels can be used in a range of applications, including flooring, walls, and roofing. The panels are produced in large scale measurements – this means that the buildings can be assembled from a small number of elements.

The elements cut from the panels can be in different thicknesses, sizes and shapes. Every kind and shape of cutouts for windows and doors can be easily cut into the panel at the factory or by the customer themself.

It is also possible to use the panels as a raw material to produce furniture, fences and other wooden products.

Why are Woodsons WXP Panels good for using

Woodsons_icon_strength

Strong and durable

The crosswise orientation of the timber layers creates a strong and stable panel that is less likely to warp or twist over time.

Woodsons_icon_acoustic

Good acoustic characteristics

Panels offer excellent acoustic characteristics, effectively reducing sound transmission and providing a quieter indoor environment.

Woodsons_icon_natural

Free from chemicals

Woodsons panels offers an eco-friendly alternative to traditional laminated timber, as it does not require the use of glues or chemicals, promoting a healthier and more sustainable construction method.

Woodsons_icon_recycle

Sustainable

Panels are made from sustainable materials and can be easily recycled at the end of their life.

Woodsons_icon_thermalconductivity

Good thermal properties

Our panels are offering better heat insulation properties than the usual cross laminated timber (CLT) or log houses due to the presence of air grooves in the boards, providing enhanced thermal performance and energy efficiency. The panel helps to keep the heat away when its hot and the cold away when its freezing.

Woodsons_icon_appeal

Aestetic appeal

The natural texture and grain of the timber gives cross timber panels a unique and attractive look that can enhance the design of a building.

Products

Woodsons is producing and providing WXP panels for construction and production companies. We are producing standard panels in three different thicknesses:

  • 3-layers – 54mm
  • 5-layers – 90mm
  • 7- layers – 126mm

The sizes of the panels are starting from 2,4m x 1,1m up to 2,7m x 11m. The panels could be used for building walls, floors and ceilings. Also possible to use as a wooden fence material, for furniture and other light wooden products.

The panels can be primed and painted from one or both sides to reduce the amount of work of the construction company on the working site.

Our story

Woodsons is a family business. The roots and essential works of the ancestors go back to the beginning of the last century. At that time, the great-great-grandfather Mattis Hohensee (born on 28.10.1859, Saaremaa, Lümanda parish) dealt with shipbuilding in Saaremaa.

The most famous ship built by Mattis was the 4-masted barquentine “Andreas Weide,” one of the largest sailing ships in Estonia; length of 47.6, a width of 9.0, a draft of 4.9 m, a total capacity of 583.4, net capacity 478.4.

It is one of the largest wooden sailing ships built on the shores of Estonia and Latvia. The construction started in 1889 in Heinaste by the forest captain, ship owner, and entrepreneur Andreas Weide (6.12.1832 Orajõe municipality – 18.11.1889 Heinaste).

The ship got named after him after his death. 1891 the boat was completed according to the model and under the control of Mattis. The first captains were men from the Weide family, Latvians, since 1895. Sailed for 12 years, visiting ports in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, South and West Africa, and Europe.

We do not build wooden ships today, but we offer wooden materials, wooden garden products, and wooden houses.

A specialized production line for cross timber panels, along with additional equipment, is being established through a project co-funded by PRIA. The goal is to produce solid mass cross timber panels and add value to them, for example, in the form of garden houses or other buildings and their components. A successful outcome would involve gaining general recognition in the market as an alternative construction material and finding export markets.
